The URZ Wiki

The University‘s Wiki is a collection of useful information about all different kind of services and tools provided by the University. From A for accounts at the university to M for media production to V for VPN access, all important offers are covered. The wiki is structured such as a regular wiki that you know from the internet (e.g.,Wikipedia): you can either search for specific information using the search function or use the table of contents and cross-references to get to other interesting sub-pages.

The overview of all university's services is particularly helpful. It contains brief summaries and information on who the service is particularly aimed at (students,teachers or staff). Most of the Wiki is in German, but the most important pages are also available in English. You can either change the Language at the top of the page:

Who do I contact if my laptop is not working?

Two hands on a laptop keyboardThe University Computer Center offers all employees and students the opportunity to connect to the Friedrich Schiller University Jena network via WLAN/Eduroam or VPN using their own device. You can get support in the notebook consultation hours. You can also contact the notebook consultation hour with other problems.

It takes place Monday-Friday 5-8 p.m. in Ernst-Abbe-Platz 8, room 215. You can find all further information here:

If you have problems connecting to the WLAN/Eduroam or the VPN client with a mobile device, you can also contact the IT Service Center:

Laptop Donation and Computer Labs

Who can I go to if I don't have a PC or laptop?

Students who are not sufficiently equipped with technology for a variety of reasons, can choose one of the following two options to help them get set up:

  1. Laptop donation of the University of Jena: There you can borrow laptops free charge for one semester to work with them on your research. More information about the campaign can be found at: www.elearning.uni-jena.de/laptopspende

  2. Computer Labs at the university: There you can find computers to work with on-site. For more information, go to: www.computerserviceb67.uni-jena.de/computerpools (in German only)

Support for media production and technical questions

Who can I contact if I cannot access online university services?

The University Computer Center (URZ) and the Multimedia Center (MMZ) at the University of Jena can help you if you have any questions regarding technology and digital services realted to the university. The URZ can provide you with Office 365 and other software programs for your studies, entirely free of charge for students.

In addition, the URZ takes care of all matters concerning your personal account, which you use for Moodle, your university e-mail address, and Friedolin. If you have any problems logging in or have lost your password, your best option is to contact the URZ.

The university WiFi (Eduroam) and the university‘s VPN access, which allows you using all internal university services remotely, are also managed by the URZ. Computer labs and printers are available for students to use in the multimedia center (MMZ). If you have any questions or concern, you can easily file a ticket with the IT Service Center online.
